PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — In an inspiring celebration of Black History Month, fourth-grade students at Pass Christian Elementary School have delved into the lives and achievements of more than 70 African American pioneers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Led by their Makerspace teacher, Mrs. Raven Canterbury, the students combined research, writing, and hands-on creativity to shine a light on individuals who have made significant contributions to these fields.
Throughout February, students engaged in an immersive learning experience, researching figures such as NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, engineer Lonnie Johnson, astronaut Dr. Mae C. Jemison, and scientist George Washington Carver.
The project emphasized critical thinking and digital literacy as students compiled biographies and created multimedia presentations to showcase their findings.

This initiative highlights the importance of integrating diverse representation into STEAM education and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the contributions made by African Americans in these fields.
By empowering students to research and share these stories, Pass Christian Elementary School ensures that BLack History Month becomes a lasting impactful learning experience.
