GULFPORT (GG) — The Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce its 2025 class of inductees. This 11-member group will be inducted on June 21st at the Lyman Community Center. This star-studded class is the 10th in the history of the Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame.
Timmy Bowers (Harrison Central HS, Class of 2000): Four-year letter winner and two-year starter in basketball at Mississippi St. Two-time All-SEC performer. Played professionally overseas.
Sara Carter (St. John HS, Class of 2000): Four-year starter in basketball at South Alabama. Four-time recipient of the Sun Belt Conference All-Academic award. Also coached basketball at Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech.
Robin Fairley Collins (Gulfport HS, Class of 1980): Played basketball at MS Gulf Coast Community College and William Cary College. Two-year starter for the Lady Crusaders.
Rod Davis (Gulfport HS Class of 1999): All-CUSA and All-America football standout at Southern Miss. Four-year starter at linebacker. 2002 recipient of the Conerly Award. Played professionally in the NFL, CFL, and Arena League. Head football coach at Florence, MS HS.
Bobby Garner (Gulfport HS, Class of 1999): 3-year letter winner in football at Southern Miss. Stared three years at TE. Also lettered one year in baseball for the Golden Eagles.
Charles Harris (Gulfport HS, Class of 1979): Played basketball at MS Gulf Coast Community College and Southwest Oklahoma University. Two-year starter and a NAIA All-American at SW Oklahoma.
Leroy Johnson (Gulfport HS, Class of 1998): Played football at MS Gulf Coast Community College and Southern Miss. Two-year starter on defense for the Golden Eagles.
Cedric Scott (Gulfport HS, Class of 1996): Head strength and conditioning coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Played football at Southern Miss. Four-year starter on defense. All-CUSA performer. Played professionally in the NFL, CFL, and World League.
Syniker Taylor (Gulfport High School, Class of 1998): Four-year letter winner in football at Ole Miss. All-SEC performer as a Defensive Back. Also lettered one year in basketball for the Rebels.
Rick Villarreal (St. John HS, Class of 1975): Served at the Director of Athletics for 16 years at the University of North Texas. Also served as the Associate Athletics Director at Southern Miss Coached football at Southern Miss, LSU, and TCU
Trent Weaver (Gulfport HS, Class of 1984). Played baseball at Mississippi St. and Baylor. Two-year starter as an infielder for the Bears. Drafted by the Oakland Athletics and played 3 years of minor league baseball.
