HARRISON COUNTY (GG) — As of 12:36pm Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors issued a statement that based on Tuesday’s record-breaking snowstorm conditions, hazardous road conditions continue and another weather advisory will be in sent in the evening.  The snow and ice also closed highways Tuesday — including more than 100 miles (161 kilometers) of the nation’s southernmost interstate, I-10.

All public school districts in Harrison County (Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi & Harrison County) and parochial schools will be closed Thursday, January 23, 2025 due to road conditions.  Additionally, Harrison County, Gulfport, Long Beach, and Biloxi offices will remain closed.  The city of Pass Christian has not announced their intent and the city of D’Iberville has stated they will reopen at 8am.

The city of Pass Christian will hold their regular Board of Aldermen meeting Wednesday at 3:30pm, Long Beach changed to 3pm Thursday, D’Iberville announced their meeting is rescheduled at 6pm Thursday.   It had been more than a decade since snow last fell on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Tuesday’s rare snowfall set a record in the area, where 6-9 inches fell in some places, far surpassing its record of just over 2 inches set Dec. 31, 1963, the National Weather Service said.

Due to anticipated cold weather conditions, two shelters will open in Harrison County tonight, and subsequent nights as necessary.
