PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — On Saturday, June 5th, a Fundraiser for Dispatcher Blaine Rood was held. The fundraiser brought people together despite the weather to support Blaine in his fight against stage 4 adrenocortical carcinoma, an extremely rare form of cancer originating in the outer layer of the adrenal gland. It occurs in about 1-2 people per million annually.

The Hog Addiction BBQ Competition Team cooked pulled pork and jambalaya plates, which were also available, for only $10.00, at the pavilion on Davis Ave. and E. 2nd St. in Pass ChristianThe community came out to join the Pass Christian Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in supporting Blaine and his family.

While there is no known cure for the cancer Blaine is fighting, he is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Blaine reports he is “having good days and looking forward to going back to work.”

Blaine’s mother, Tina Patton Massel, also expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to everyone who came out and ordered online to support Blaine.” She also gave a special thank you to the Pass Christian Police Department and Chief Daren Freeman, as well as the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Matt Haley.

Although there are no GoFundMe accounts associated with Blaine Rood, anyone who would like to make a donation may do so through Venmo @Tina-Shaw-13 which will go directly to Blaine’s mother, Tina. Information about future fundraisers will be available on social media.
