Due to extreme amounts of rain Thursday, June 18, a dam in the Swan Lake area in North Harrison County has sustained structural damage. The Harrison County Road Department has crews on scene and state agencies have offered assistance. Residents in the area are asked to shelter in place and no evacuation has been issued.
As released earlier Thursday by the Harrison County Emergency Management, the county will open Saucier Lizana shelter immediately in the afternoon located at 23771 Saucier Lizana Road in Saucier. If you are in an area affected by the flooding and need somewhere to go in Northern Harrison County, please use caution while traveling to the shelter. Kiln DeLisle Road in rural Pass Christian is closed due to wash out in the same area, which further updates will be provided.
Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.
Between 5 to 8 inches of rain fell earlier and even though the rain has stopped for now the water will be slow to recede. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Some locations that will experience flooding include Gulfport, Biloxi, Long Beach, Pass Christian, St. Martin, D’iberville and Gulfport Airport.
