BILOXI (GG) — On Tuesday, June 9, 2026 was announced that Candra Beth Clark of Biloxi, Mississippi, was convicted on May 28, 2026, of one count of Aggravated Assault after a two-day jury trial.
“During the trial, the jury heard evidence that on March 21, 2025, the victim was outside of Hotel Legends having a conversation with a friend when Clark engaged in a verbal confrontation while walking past the victim and the friend. After an exchange of words, Clark produced a box cutter and slashed the victim’s throat, causing a severe laceration. The jury also heard from responding officers who quickly located Clark after the incident, recovered the box cutter used in the assault, and took her into custody within an hour,” said Assistant District Attorney Meaghan J. Smith, who prosecuted the case alongside Assistant District Attorney Billy Stage.
In addition to testimony from the victim and the eye witness, the jury heard from lead Investigator Melissa Hoelzer with Biloxi Police Department, who secured surveillance video capturing the assault from start to finish. Finally, a deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) testified that she intercepted letters written by Clark in which the defendant confessed to assaulting the victim because she was “disrespected” and further wrote she was a “a cutter of men who disrespect women.”
The jury deliberated for thirty minutes before returning a guilty verdict. Circuit Court Judge Christopher Schmidt set Clark’s sentencing for July 16, 2026. Clark faces up to 20 years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
