PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — Sometimes in softball, something almost magical happens when the bats are hot and the pitching is excellent. The stars aligned for the Pass Pirates varsity softball team on Thursday, March 5, with a shutout 10-0 win over PRC in six innings. It was the team’s fifth consecutive win, bringing their record to 9-2-1. It was the fourth time this season the Pirates won by eight or more points.
“I feel like the win was a complete team win,” said coach DJ Elkins. “I’m super proud of all the girls. They have done a fantastic job. Bristol (Jones) and Kayden (Scheid) have done an amazing job every time they have pitched all year. It was Bristol that started, and she was electric. She was really good. Our bats were probably the most competitive they’ve been since I’ve been here. It was so much fun watching these ladies get rewarded for the hard work they have put in. It was really cool to see.”
The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 start in the first inning and never looked back. During the six innings of play, Pass High scored in every inning but two. Scheid finished with 3-4 with three RBIs. Jones, Mia Lacy, Makinlee and Allen all had two hits. Braylee Cobern had one hit and three RBIs.
Jones allowed only two hits and struck out 14 batters.
Pass High next faces Forest County Agricultural High School at 6:30 p.m. on March 10.
“Moving forward, I just want to keep the girls competing and playing really hard,” Elkins said. “Good things happen to people who play hard and we’ve done a great job of that to start the year. The main thing is for them to keep the mentality of competing every pitch.”
FCAHS is 6-11 and 1-1 in their district. Pass High is 4-0 against FCA since 2016. A win over the Aggies will give them their sixth consecutive win at home.
