CLINTON (GG) — If one is ever looking for a prime example of dominance, they do not have to look any further than a small, private, all-girls Catholic school located in the quaint and picturesque town of Bay St. Louis named Our Lady Academy nestled comfortably behind Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. The Our Lady Academy volleyball program has become the bell cow for the sport of in the state. On Thursday, October 16, the Crescents traveled to Mississippi College to take on the Lady Bears of Alcorn Central for the fourth time in the last five years for the Class 3A state championship. And, dominance is exactly what everyone in the building witnessed.
The Crescents, led by two-time Class 3A Miss Volleyball Myah Favre, starred the Lady Bears in the eyes, smiled, set, served, and spiked their way to the school’s 18th state championship in the sport.
The Crescents (41-4) beat the Lady Bears 25-12, 25-14, and 25-22 in the finals. The Crescents jumped on the Lady Bears from the first serve and did not relent despite what the final set score showed.
The Crescents showed what they had been working towards all season long which was a dominating display of volleyball respective to their ranking.
Myah Favre led the Crescents with 24 kills in the match along with 4 points, a block and 16 assists. Loralai Williford added 9 kills, 2 blocks, and 7 digs in the match followed by Taylor Henley with 7 kills, 5 points, 4 blocks, 6 digs, and 33 assists. Kaylin Kinniburgh recorded 6 kills, 7 points, and 11 digs in the finals. Favre was named the MVP of the Class 3A state finals following the match.
The Crescents did not lose a game in the playoffs winning 15-0 through five matches. Throughout the season, the Crescents also showed the type of determination a champion displays by playing perhaps the toughest schedule in the history of their program. In 2025, the Crescents lined up against Class 7A schools 17 times with three of their losses coming in that stretch. The Crescents only other loss during the season came against the 2024 Class 4A state champion Purvis. In 118 sets played during the season, the Crescents lost just 12.

OLA head coach Mike Meyers commented, “I thought we came out early in the match as well as we have all year and did not let up. Our girls were not nervous to be on such a big stage. They played a very consistent match, both offensively and defensively. In the third set, when Alcorn Central played at their very best and went ahead of us at one point, we hung there and won the set, the match, and the state championship! I am very proud of them.”
During the season, the Crescents played in four tournaments and won three of them and lost in the finals of the fourth one. OLA did not lose a set in division action during the season as they steam-rolled to their 26th consecutive region title and #1-seed in the playoffs.
Meyers added, “This was a really special season. We played what was probably our most difficult schedule ever and still were able to finish with 41 wins and only four losses. Our play was very consistent all season long. We had a great group of four seniors who did a very good job of leading all season long, and we will certainly miss them. However, we return an excellent group of underclassmen next year. I am very proud of these young ladies!”
OLA loses seniors Myah Favre, Loralai Williford, Ashley Hall, and Reagan Krebs who have not lost the last match of their season for four years running.
The Crescents have won a total of 18 state volleyball championships in 2002-03, 2006-09, 2012-19, and 2022-25. Meyers is in his second tour of duty with the Crescents having mentored the program from 2000-19 before handing the program over to his daughter and former OLA state champion Emily Meyers Corley from 2020-24. Corley stepped away from the program for a private business opportunity and Meyers took over this past summer.
OLA Crescents volleyball is the most dominant program of any sport in the history of Mississippi high school athletics. If the Crescents and Meyers have anything to say about it, that won’t change any time soon.
