BILOXI (GG) — Back-to-back home runs from Zavier Warren and Luke Adams with two outs in the third helped lead the Biloxi Shuckers (10-11) to their ninth win over their last 12, a 6-1 victory, over the Montgomery Biscuits (11-9) on Saturday night at Keesler Federal Park in front of a season-high crowd of 3,321. The win also clinched the Shuckers’ second consecutive six-game series win, the first time the team has recorded back-to-back six-game series wins since 2023.
Darrien Miller gave the Shuckers an early 2-0 lead in the second with a two-RBI double to right. In the third, Brock Wilken made it 3-0 with an RBI double to left, scoring Cooper Pratt. The next batter, Zavier Warren, smashed a 382-foot shot off the bat at 109 MPH to right, making it 5-0. Luke Adams then chipped in with his second home run of the series, a blast to left, making it 6-0.
Shuckers’ starter Alexander Cornielle (1-0) earned the win after 5.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts, lowering his season ERA to 0.51 through four starts. Josh Maciejewski starred out of the bullpen with 2.2 shutout innings with six strikeouts. Chase Costello earned his first Double-A save, getting a groundout to record the final out of the night. Biscuits’ starter Duncan Davitt (2-1) took the loss.
At the plate, six of the nine starters in the Shuckers’ order recorded a hit, including a multi-hit night from Zavier Warren (2-for-4).
Despite back-to-back home runs for the second consecutive game, the Biloxi Shuckers fell to the Montgomery Biscuits 6-3 at Keesler Federal Park on Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2025.
The Biscuits took an early 2-0 lead in the second with an RBI triple from Willy Vasquez and a sacrifice fly from Hunter Stovall. They extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth with a two-RBI triple from Xavier Isaac and a two-run home run from Will Simpson.
The Shuckers struck back in the sixth with back-to-back home runs from Ethan Murray and Bladimir Restituyo. The Shuckers scored their final run of the game in the eighth, an RBI triple from Garrett Spain. Ty Johnson (2-0) earned the win while Tate Kuehner (1-4) took the loss. JJ Goss also earned his second save of the season.
After an off-day on Monday, the Shuckers are set to begin a six-game series at Synovus Park against the Columbus Clingstones at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday. The Heart of a Shucker Community Fund, created in partnership with the Biloxi Shuckers and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, announced a $5,000 donation to Special Olympics Mississippi prior to the Biloxi Shuckers’ game on Saturday night against the Montgomery Biscuits. The donation is set to help support the organization’s state competition, held at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
“This incredibly generous donation by the Biloxi Shuckers will impact the lives of over 6,000 Special Olympic athletes across the state of Mississippi, empowering all individuals with intellectual disabilities to excel on any playing field and within their own communities,” President and CEO Monica Daniel said.
The mission of Special Olympics Mississippi is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics Athletes and their communities.
“Being able to support the Special Olympics of MS and their state competition at Keesler AFB is an incredible privilege,” Shuckers Community Development Manager David Blackwell said. “We look forward to working with them more in the future and seeing how this donation impacts the lives of these wonderful athletes and their families.”
The Heart of a Shucker Community Fund was created on July 3, 2023, to allow the Biloxi Shuckers to make meaningful contributions to enhance the Gulf Coast community the team calls home. The fund, the first created in Shuckers franchise history, aims to support the local Gulf Coast community and beyond through meaningful contributions, partnerships and exposure.
As with the 2023 season, organizations will be honored during the Saturday night game of every homestand and a special presentation is set to be made on July 3. The fund will increase from five donations in 2023 to 12 donations in 2024.
