LONG BEACH (GG) — The Friendly City expected to have sunny skies, a cool night, everlasting fun, and a chance of snow! On Sunday, December 7th, Long Beach proved that anything can happen with a bit of holiday magic and a strong community. The town transformed into a winter wonderland, creating a night no one will ever forget.
The day warmed up early with the Christmas in Long Beach Festival, like that of a Christmas Market, with one-of-a-kind gifts and tasty food. But the real shift in the forecast arrived at 5:15 p.m., when the Sea Santa Sail-A-Bration Boat Parade cruised down Jeff Davis Avenue. Festive boats rolled by glowing, each one playing Christmas hits and tossing goodies. Children, and even a few parents, stood with awe-stricken faces lit by pulsating LED lights. Then a special guest arrived: Santa himself sat atop the Fire Engine, waving to the crowd, “Ho Ho”-ing with a twinkle in his eye.
Attendees were nudged toward Harper McCaughan Town Green afterward, and it’s a good thing they did, for anyone who left suffered from an extreme case of missing out. The Town Green already dazzles on any December night with its free walk-through light experience, but this evening had something extra swirling in its atmosphere. Boats from the parade parked along the back of the green, now still enough to admire up close as Santa sat in front of the Coca-Cola Christmas truck, summoning a line of star-struck children.
As Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce excitedly stepped onto the stage, the most unusual weather event on the coast ensued.
Snow!

He continued proclaiming parade winners, many were given a certificate, but the large, coveted trophy for best in show went to the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus’ bright boat ride. Seymour’s swag surely swayed the judges. Mayor Pierce concluded, inviting all to “Come enjoy the snow!”
White fluff drifted down, multiplying by the minute, frosting hair, jackets, and every joyful face in sight. The town became a winter wonderland playground for all, young and old. Local businesses lined the walkway, offering a sack full of free activities. USM had a Santa letter-writing station with a special bright red mail box, Simply Jane hosted DIY ornament crafting, and Bankhouse Coffee fought the chill with hot cocoa, the perfect pairing for Dolce Bakery’s sweets, while CASA of South Mississippi guided children in making decorative candy canes. All proceeds were gifted to CASA, granting many children, in attendance and not, a dose of holiday cheer.
By the time the last sudsy snow fell, Long Beach had once again proven to be the Friendliest City. Proving that even a rescheduled event like this can create a night so bright and full of joy. Where boats without water still manage to sail, and a little engineered snow can create big, unforgettable memories.
For those who like to plan ahead, the forecast already shows something promising. The Sea Santa Sail-A-Bration returns December 5th, 2026. Vendor and boat applications will drift in soon.
Until then, Long Beach will stay fun and friendly, with more surprises in store.
