OXFORD (GG) — The #5-ranked Ole Miss Rebels only needed about 31 seconds to get things rolling on Saturday, September 21, against the Georgia Southern Eagles. When they did, that was all she wrote for the Eagles as the Rebels disbanded Georgia Southern 52-13 in front of the largest crowd in school history totaling 67,505.

Jaxson Dart hit Juice Wells for a 35-yard scoring strike on the second play from scrimmage with 14:29 left to play in the opening quarter. Caden Davis converted on the PAT to make the score 7-0.
After a quick three-and-out, the Rebels pushed the score to 10-0 on a Davis 28-yard field goal with 13:16 left in the first period.
The two teams see-sawed back-and-forth for the remainder of the period until the Rebels found the end zone with 4:39 left in the first quarter when Dart hit Jordan Watkins on a 23-yard scoring toss. Davis’ PAT pushed the score to 17-0.
With 14:12 left in the first half, the Rebels allowed their first touchdown of the 2024 season when OJ Arnold connected with Derwin Burgess Jr. on a 12-yard scoring toss. Gavin Stewart’s PAT made the score 17-7.
The Rebels answered with a 70-yard scoring aerial from Dart to Tre Harris with 8:08 left in the half. Davis’ PAT made the score 24-7 at intermission.

Ole Miss added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Dart hit Harris with a 36-yard scoring aerial with 14:30 left in the game followed by a Davis PAT to make the score 45-10.
Then, with 7:37 left to play the Rebels scored their final points of the game when Domonique Thomas ran in from the one-yard line. Davis’ PAT was good making the score 52-13.  The Eagles added another field goal out of frustration when Stewart nailed a 33-yard kick with 1:56 remaining to make the final score 52-13.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin commented, “It is good to get to 4-0 and in front of our largest crowd ever. The players notice that and I thank for the fans for coming out. I have told the team that they have a chance to be really special but we still have to clean up some things. Our defense put up some good numbers today. Chris Paul stepped up his game today. Now, we need to turn our focus to Kentucky as we begin conference play. It will be a tough game for us as we know there are easy games in this conference.”
The Rebels were led by Dart who threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns on 22-of-31 passing with one interception. Harris had a career day catching 11 passes for 225 yards and two scores. Parrish led the ground attack with 89 yards on 13 carries. Paul led the defense with 10 total stops including 1.5 sacks and 2 tackles for loss.
The Rebels open Southeastern Conference play with an 11 a.m. kickoff against Kentucky in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi.
