The MGCCC Harrison County Davis Campus’s Fine Art Gallery will play host to the works of Gulfport High School students from February 19- March 15, 2024, with a reception on February 22 from 5:00-6:00PM in the campus Fine Arts Gallery.

Gulfport High School has an impressive fine arts program, offering a wide variety of artistic mediums and disciplines to their students.

Featured works are made by the students of Marshall Polson, Laura Pecoul, Chad Brown, and Rachel Sheckart. These instructors are active in their field and use their talents and knowledge from the professional world of art to inspire students.

Marshall Polson teaches Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, Art 4 and Advanced Placement Art History. Polson is currently teaching the history of Asian art, landscape painting, and 2-point perspective.

Laura Pecoul teaches Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, and Art 4, and Ceramics 1. Pecoul is teaching 2-D Design, the elements and principles of design, and hand-building in Ceramics.

Chad Brown teaches Art 1, Art 2, Drawing 1, Drawing 2, and Advanced Placement Studio Art. Brown is currently teaching students about the use of pattern in art, including commercial applications and the shape-building method of drawing.

Rachel Sheckart teaches 9th grade Art 1. Mrs. Sheckart is teaching about Faith Ringold, quilting, and collage.

Participants from instructor Chad Brown’s classes are Chloe Santiago, Layla Hedglin, Lily Harrien, Ariana Staten, Raquel Gordon, Tristan Milstead, Jewel Catlin, Jessica Maldonado, and Zander Whitehead. Participants from instructor Laura Pecoul’s classes are Caroline Brumfield, Olivia Szkolnik, Brelyn Tucker, Mallory Symmes, Elizabeth Whittaker, Jayden Trotter, and An Nguyen.

Participants from instructor Marshall Polson’s classes are Aniston Arde, Madison Cullifer, Isabella Schroeder, Tyler Steadman, Andrianna Palmiero, Peyton Wortel, Ma’Lashia McGowan, and Jeremy Pollard. Participants from instructor Rachel Sheckart’s classes are Maegan Holdman, Kennedy DuBose, Marin Alliston, Kimball (Chase) Smallwood, and Cadence Gill.

“The ‘New Artists Unveiled’ exhibit is impressive,” said MGCCC 2-D artists instructor and gallery curator Cecily Cummings. “I hope these talented students will be MGCCC fine arts students in the near future!”

The exhibit is free and open to the public. The HC campus is located at 2226 Switzer Rd, Gulfport. The art gallery is in the Fine Arts building, building D.  Gallery hours are Monday– Thursday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and Fri- day, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
