PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — Celebration Saturday, Pass Christian’s 2025 Juneteenth celebration, took place June 14th at the West Harrison County Civic Center on Espy Ave. Juneteenth in the Pass Chair Kimberly Joseph worked along with several others to organize the event. This much anticipated community gathering began with an empowering “If Not You, Then Who” Celebration Brunch to honor local change-makers and outstanding community members, with a delicious meal and inspirational program.
As part of the commitment to the future, Juneteenth in the Pass committee members awarded scholarships to deserving students of Pass Christian High School, investing in the next generation of leaders. The celebration continued with a vibrant Day Party featuring live music by New Direction and the Gulf Coast Missionary Baptist Association Choir, fellowship, and community spirit.
Pass Christian’s annual Juneteenth celebration held true to its mission of enlightening, uplifting, and uniting the community while honoring the historical and cultural significance of Juneteenth. Paying tribute to the courageous individuals who fought for the abolishment of slavery among African Americans while acknowledging ongoing struggles.
Mississippi being one of the last states to ratify the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and currently one of several states to not officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday, which is unfortunate considering the significance of the emancipation of enslaved peoples for all Mississippians and the nation. Nationally recognized in the United Sates, since 2021, when President Joe Biden signed federal legislation to recognize June 19th as the date the Emancipation Proclamation was applied nationwide.
Juneteenth continues to gain public recognition as it marks the true end of slavery in America. Juneteenth in the Pass is a program under Pass Christian Main Street with the city.
