LONG BEACH (GG) — Although it could be only temporary, current Long Beach School Board of Trustees President Tim Pierce was reappointed unanimously Tuesday, February 4, 2025 by the city board of aldermen. This term will expire in February of 2030.
Due to the mayoral campaign of the school board president for the Friendly City’s top position, retiring Long Beach Mayor George Bass mentioned that Pierce would resign from his position with Long Beach schools to take on city responsibilities if elected mayor April 1, 2025. Currently, Pierce faces three opponents in his campaign for Long Beach mayor. The Republican primary (which will be the deciding factor) is set for April 1, 2025.
If Pierce is elected mayor, the school board position will be vacant upon his resignation and the city will advertise again in April to fill this role.
Previously a city alderman from 1993-2001, Pierce has been appointed to the Long Beach School Board of Trustees for 20 years and has been elected by his peers as school board president for the last 8 years. After a stellar notable career spanning decades at NASA’s Stennis Space Center and a longstanding commitment to the Long Beach community, Pierce retired in early January 2025 and announced his mayoral candidacy on January 13, 2025.
During Pierce’s time as the school board president, the Long Beach School District has been named as the top school district in the state of Mississippi.
Following this approval by the board of aldermen, The Gazebo Gazette newspaper was unanimously authorized to host the Long Beach Political Debate Saturday, March 1, 2025 for the municipal candidates at the Long Beach Senior Center. The event will begin at 1pm. Additionally, the city unanimously awarded The Gazebo Gazette as the Long Beach paper for all legal and public notices for the 7th consecutive year.
