MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST (GG) — On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, hurricane season is the most worrisome time of the year. While residents are busy securing their homes, restoration crews are preparing, too.
For Paul Davis Restoration of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (https://gulfcoast.pauldavis.com/), preparation begins long before the first raindrop falls.
“We always joke that if you wait until the storm is in the Gulf to get prepared, you’ve waited too late,” said Lindsay Gruber, Business Development and Disaster Recovery Specialist with Paul Davis Restoration of Mississippi Gulf Coast.
As a locally owned and operated mitigation company on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Paul Davis brings a combination that matters when disaster strikes: “We have national backing but a hometown feel.”
Paul Davis Restoration is part of North America’s largest mitigation company, with over 300 independently owned and operated franchises across the United States and Canada. That national network means that when a major hurricane impacts the Coast, additional crews, equipment, and resources can be brought into the area.
That support includes storm teams traveling to the Coast with trailers, specialized equipment, and even Starlink technology to help crews remain connected and continue working when traditional infrastructure is compromised.
Before storms arrive, the Paul Davis Restoration keeps the community informed through social media updates about approaching storms and what to expect. Anthony Gruber, who served as a weather forecaster for the Navy for 20 years, closely monitors developing weather systems, helping the company communicate timely information to the community.
The company helps residents prepare by sharing information on sandbags, boarding up, and other pre-storm steps. Crews stock vans and prepare equipment to dispatch as soon as conditions allow.
Once the storm passes, the real restoration work begins.
Paul Davis Restoration provides a broad range of restoration and mitigation services for residential and commercial properties, including water, storm, wind, and fire damage; mold and mildew remediation; biohazard cleaning; asbestos abatement; and roof tarping.
The process begins with a call.
A team assesses the property, determines the amount of equipment needed, and identifies immediate steps to prevent further damage. That may include drying equipment, generators, or board-up services, depending on the situation.
Their goal is not simply to clean up the storm’s aftermath, but to prevent further damage while the homeowner works with their insurance company.
That distinction can be vital after a hurricane.
“One of the most important pieces of advice I can give to people on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is to have a copy of your entire insurance policy,” Gruber said.
The restoration works directly with many insurance carriers, documenting damage according to insurance standards, and helping customers navigate the restoration process.
But Paul Davis’ work extends beyond residential homes. The company also serves hospitals, hotels, municipalities, and multifamily properties through master service agreements and emergency disaster recovery plans.
Paul Davis representatives walk through a facility with the customer and develop a customized plan that can include property maps, drying specifications, board-up procedures, and cooling stations for employees.
The company’s response doesn’t stop at the property line, either.
Paul Davis partners with other locally owned and operated businesses on the Coast to provide specialized services. Instead of a homeowner having to coordinate a long list of contractors after a disaster, Paul Davis can help bring those professionals together.
That local network is a factor that sets the company apart. Even with national support, the people serving the Coast are members of the same community.
When disaster strikes, there is no Monday-through-Friday schedule.
Gruber makes herself available to customers around the clock. Paul Davis teams operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, because “Disasters don’t wait for Monday through Friday.”
That commitment has meant crews responding across much of South Mississippi.
During Hurricane Arthur, Paul Davis teams worked throughout the Gulf Coast, with service reaching communities from Poplarville and Lucedale to Gautier and Biloxi.
Since 1966, Paul Davis has restored residential and commercial properties following severe storms, water damage, fires, and mold. The company also emphasizes technology and innovation, using modern equipment for water extraction, fire restoration, mold remediation, and damage assessment, including tools like thermal imaging.
But for Paul Davis Restoration, technology and equipment are only part of the job. The people behind the restoration are what matter most. “We restore more than property; we restore lives,” Gruber said.
It is a statement that speaks to the reality behind the work.
A flooded home is not simply a water-damaged structure. It is someone’s kitchen, bedroom, memories, and belongings. A tree through a roof is not simply storm damage. It is someone’s home that has suddenly been made vulnerable. “We know what we do is very personal,” Gruber said.
“No one wants to come home to a flooded house,” Gruber says. That’s why preparation is one of the company’s biggest messages for hurricane season.
For Paul Davis Restoration of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, hurricane preparation is more than stocking trucks and getting equipment ready. It is about making sure the Coast knows a team is ready to respond when the storm moves on.
With local ownership, national resources, 24/7 emergency response, and a wide range of restoration services, Paul Davis is preparing to meet the next storm with the same goal that has guided the company for decades: putting people and their property first.
Because on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, storms are inevitable— but recovery does not have to be faced alone.
