LONG BEACH (GG) — The Long Beach Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving a fatal hit and run accident that occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, on 1st Street, west of Cleveland Avenue.
The injured victim, 36-year-old Jimmy Alexander Mero of Long Beach, was found lying in the roadway by a resident. Mero was transported by ambulance to Gulfport Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Based on surveillance video, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a truck or SUV. The Long Beach Police Department is asking residents in the area of the incident who may have video footage or additional information that could help identify the suspect vehicle, to please call the Police Department at 228-865-1981 or Crimestoppers at 877-787-5898.
