PUBLIC NOTICE | Summary of Ordinance # 718

Notice is hereby given that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Pass Christian approved Ordinance No. 718 on June 16, 2026. Ordinance 718 of the City of Pass Christian establishes the Safe Solicitation Ordinance of Pass Christian requires anyone seeking to solicit donations, contributions, or exchanges of goods for value from roadways, medians, traffic islands, or intersections to first obtain a permit from the Municipal Clerk’s Office. Permit holders must comply with safety-related restrictions, including not impeding traffic, soliciting only during designated hours (9:00 a.m. until one hour before sunset), remaining near the approved location, and avoiding harassing behavior or use of amplification devices. Applications must include identifying and event information and generally require a $25 fee, although locally domiciled nonprofit organizations are exempt from the fee. The city may stop solicitation activities that violate the ordinance, and individuals who solicit without a permit or misuse a permit may be charged with a misdemeanor and face fines of up to $500, imprisonment of up to six months, or both. The ordinance became effective immediately upon passage. A full copy of the ordinance may be viewed at Pass Christian City Hall during normal business hours.
