BILOXI (GG) — For more than 30 years, “Riverdance” has been touring the world, delighting audiences with its blend of traditional Irish and international dances. “Riverdance 30,” the 30th anniversary of the touring company, will be at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino for four shows.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7. Tickets to all shows start at $62.25 and are available at ticketmaster.com and online at beaurivage.mgmresorts.com.
“Riverdance“ celebrates its 30th anniversary with a special world tour featuring updated choreography, new costumes, and enhanced lighting, projection, and motion graphics. The production will also introduce a new generation of performers, many of whom were not yet born when the show debuted three decades ago.
Olivia Nachitgal, one of the lead dancers in the touring company, said she knew she wanted to be in “Riverdance” when she was 10.
“I grew up dancing, and I had a huge friend group of dancers, so we went to Calgary to see the show, and it was the most amazing experience,” she said. “Before that, I didn’t really know what Irish dancing or show dancing was — it wasn’t really on my radar. But the moment I saw ‘Riverdance, it was so incredible and seemed to be the next step.”
Since joining the touring company, Nachtigal said she performs an average of eight shows a week. She said she has learned a lot about both Irish culture and the importance of folk dancing.
“One of the main things that I’ve learned since joining ‘Riverdance’ is the sense of connection people have to Ireland,” Nachtigal said. “It creates such a great sense of community. We incorporate many cultures into the show, which is important.”
The show blends traditional Irish dance and music with contemporary elements, showcasing dancers, musicians, and singers from the Riverdance ensemble.
Riverdance is composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan. The Grammy Award-winning score, high-energy choreography, and striking performances have captivated audiences worldwide and helped establish Riverdance as an international cultural phenomenon.
