PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — In advancing quickly through the first round of the MHSAA 4A Playoffs, the Pass Christian Softball Lady Pirates (23-5-1) outscored the Lawrence County Lady Cougars 17-3 in two games last week. Along with 17 runs, 20 hits and 10 walks propelled the Lady Pirates to a dominating victory of the series.
The real story belonged to Pitcher Bristol Jones, who pitched nine overall innings in two games, allowed only three hits, and struck out 25 total, including her 500th. Jones batted 3-5, with 4 overall runs scored, and 5 RBIs. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn’t given up more than two walks in 25 consecutive appearances.
Pass Christian Centerfielder Kayden Scheid was nearly perfect hitting 5-6 with 5 runs scored and 2 RBIs. The Lady Pirates had multiple hit performances in both games led by Kaylee Cobern, hitting a three-run home run in the first game and Mia Lacy combining for three RBI’s in both. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Coming up, Pass Christian will square off against Mendenhall in the second round of the MHSAA 4A Playoffs at 6:00p.m. on Friday, hoping for their seventh consecutive win. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last 12 contests.
