BILOXI (GG) — With the bottom of the seventh inning approaching and being behind 7-2, the #3 Mississippi State Bulldogs (15-2) needed an offensive push.  The Diamond Dawgs got the answer after third baseman Ace Reese hit a grand slam followed by three straight hits to give Mississippi State a seven-run inning that the Tulane Green Wave (9-8) could not overcome in an 11-7 Bulldog victory at Keesler Federal Park Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

The annual Hancock Whitney Classic on the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been a usual appearance for the Diamond Dawgs as State has posted a 9-2 all-time record in Biloxi.

Scoring Summary

Tulane’s scored two early runs in the top of the first inning with leadoff hitters Kaikea Harrison and Tanner Chun coming across the plate after Jason Wachs hit an RBI single and Nolan Nawrocki launched a sacrifice fly.

Despite being down early, the Diamond Dawgs countered with leadoff hitter Drew Ayers scoring after Noah Sullivan hit an RBI double followed by Reed Stallman singling him home for a 2-2 tie.
The Green Wave jumped back on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a 2-run home run by Nate Johnson to take a 4-2 lead. The lead moved again in Tulane’s favor in the top of the seventh with two RBI hits followed by a double-steal and 7-2 Green Wave lead.
With Chone James, Vytas Valincius, and leadoff hitter Drew Wyers all loading the bases, Reese stepped up and knocked a ball near the Keesler scoreboard bringing the Bulldogs within a run. Following an error, Reed Stallman brought in Noah Sullivan, Gehrig Frei hit a laser down the third baseline bringing home Stallman, and James singled in Frei for a 9-7 lead change in favor of Mississippi State.
The Mississippi State late inning pitchers led by Dane Burns, Chris Billingsley, and Ben Davis did not let anyone even get on base in the last 2 1/2 innings. MSU added two more runs for an 11-7 final score and the late rally was their third consecutive victory in Biloxi.
The Numbers Never Lie
The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 80-34-2 in a series that dates back to 1904. However, Tulane won the previous games the last time the two teams met in New Orleans (2022).
With Charlie Foster starting on the mound, eight Bulldogs hurlers accounted for 12 strikeouts but only gave up 4 walks. Burns earned the victory with only facing one batter and threw a strikeout.
Offensively, Mississippi State finished with 12 hits, 4 extra base-hits, 4 walks, and three stolen bases. Stallman, Frei, and Valincius each had multiple hits.
The Green Wave were led by Jason Wachs with 3 hits and Johnson with two RBIs on the home run. Tom Vincent picked up the loss for Tulane, but they finished with 14 strikeouts, including 6 by J.D. Rodriguez in two innings.
