MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST (GG) — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Student Veterans of America (SVA) Chapter at the Harrison County Campus recently demonstrated its continued commitment to serving those who have served by collecting and delivering donations for the Backpacks for Veterans program at the Biloxi Veterans Administration Medical Center.
The delivery of the backpacks and donated supplies took place on Tuesday, December 16. The effort was coordinated by Alison Miller, advisor for the Harrison County Campus SVA Chapter, who organized the collection of essential items to support homeless veterans during the holiday season.
Miller requested donations of blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, and hygiene products to fill backpacks that were donated by a local Army recruiter. After collecting the items, Miller coordinated the delivery to the Biloxi VA, where staff will ensure the backpacks are distributed to homeless veterans in time for Christmas.
This outreach initiative, sponsored by the Student Veterans of America and led by Miller, reflects MGCCC’s ongoing dedication to honoring and supporting veterans and military-connected individuals throughout the Gulf Coast community.
“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the MGCCC students, employees, and our local community for your generous donations and continued support,” Miller said. “A special thank you to my colleagues in The Office of Military Benefits, Kendra Robinson and the Jackson County SVA, and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Your compassion and willingness to support those who have made great sacrifices for our nation do not go unnoticed. Your generous donations were especially appreciated by the VA staff and volunteers. Thank you all, once again, for making such a meaningful difference.”
LeeQunita Brazzle, MGCCC Military Benefits Specialist, also expressed appreciation for the widespread support. “A heartfelt thank you to the MGCCC family, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Moss Point Pastor/Chef Calvin Hutchins, and all of our community family and friends,” Brazzle said. “Your generosity, love, and support given from the depths of your hearts made this outreach possible. Because of you, our veterans are reminded that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten. Thank you for giving from the heart.”
The initiative underscores MGCCC’s commitment to supporting veterans and military members, regardless of their enrollment status, and highlights the college’s belief that service to veterans extends beyond the classroom.
