PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — On Tuesday, October 21, 2025 students from Pass Christian Public School District gave a presentation to the Pass Christian Mayor & Board of Aldermen about what trees would be best for the city that was unanimously approved by the board of aldermen. The garden club group, which is led by DeLisle Elementary Teacher Connie Skrmetta, requested board approval for a grant from the Rural Schools Collaborative in the United States for $2500.
This grant money would provide 10 to 15 fruit and pecan trees within the city of Pass Christian. Additionally, the grant funds would cover the cost of trees, soil, watering bags, and fertilizer with input from the club.
Pass Christian will provide planting locations and the best tree selections. The students from the Pass Christian Public School District provided great data and information about specific trees and their benefits to the city.
After the address, the board unanimously approved considering a check of $289 from a residential replacement of one tree in 1-30 gallon containers that increased the budget line item for the Department of Beautification. This item was placed on the consent agenda prior to the meeting.
