GULFPORT (GG) — The Port of Gulfport soon will welcome hundreds of new visitors as American Cruise Lines launches a Gulf Coast cruise itinerary from Pensacola, Florida, to New Orleans, Louisiana, with an overnight stop in Gulfport.
The cruise marks a milestone for the Port, introducing passengers to the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s thriving tourism scene. Guests will enjoy Gulfport’s waterfront, restaurants and cultural attractions, reinforcing the city’s growing role as a regional destination.
“This partnership with American Cruise Lines demonstrates our strength as a working port and a welcoming gateway for visitors,” said Jon Nass, CEO and Executive Director of the Port of Gulfport. “By bringing travelers to Gulfport, American is helping us to boost local tourism and showcase the hospitality and charm of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Passengers arriving in Gulfport will travel aboard the American Symphony, part of American’s 100% U.S.-flagged fleet of modern, technologically advanced small ships. Built in 2022, the vessel accommodates 180 guests and is equipped with the latest safety and navigation systems.
“American Cruise Lines is pleased to offer new domestic river cruises along the Gulf Coast. The area’s stunning coastlines, rich history and vibrant communities provide amazing opportunities for small ship cruising, and we can’t wait to explore it all with our guests in 2026,” said Alexa Paolella, Public Relations Manager for American.
With the Port’s proximity to downtown Gulfport, visitors will enjoy easy access to attractions like Jones Park, the Mississippi Aquarium and locally owned shops and restaurants. Planned excursions while docked at the Port of Gulfport will include a fishing expedition, visits to the TrainTastic museum and cruises to Ship Island.
“We look forward to welcoming American and sharing the heart of the Gulf Coast with their passengers,” Gulfport Mayor Hugh Keating said. “I want to thank Coastal Mississippi for its role in developing this partnership and helping us bring more visitors to the area. Their efforts will allow passengers to experience all that Gulfport and the Mississippi Gulf Coast have to offer while strengthening our local and state economy.”
The Gulf Coast Cruise begins in March 2026, with additional dates planned in December 2026, March 2027 and December 2027.
Established in 1902, the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport is driving growth on the Gulf Coast after completing a $1 billion restoration in 2022. Strategically located with direct access to Interstate 10 and Class 1 rail, the Port can reach most U.S. markets within 24 hours.
