The Board of Supervisors Meeting Room at the Harrison County Courthouse, First Judicial District, 1801 23rd Avenue, Gulfport, MS.

The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is now operating with projected budget revenue of

$178,744,238 and 42.92 percent, or $76,724,923, of such revenue is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For next fiscal year, the proposed budget has total projected revenue of $190,626,324. Of that amount,

42.30 percent, or $80,628,635, is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy. There is no proposed ad valorem tax increase on the County wide millage that is assessed to all taxpayers within Harrison County.

A countywide millage rate of 31.37 will produce the same amount of revenue from ad valorem taxes for Harrison County as was collected the prior year. The millage rate for the prior year was 32.84.

A millage rate of 46.02 will produce the same amount of revenue from ad valorem taxes for Harrison County School District as was collected in the prior year. The millage rate for the prior year was 48.55.

A millage rate of 4.40 will produce the same amount of revenue from ad valorem taxes for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as was collected in the prior year. The millage rate for the prior year was 4.62.

The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is required to set the millage rate to generate the amount requested by the Harrison County School District and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. For next year, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors plans to increase the Harrison County School District ad valorem tax millage rate by .20 mills from 48.55 mills to 48.75 mills. This increase is due to the Harrison County School District requesting an increase in funding from the previous year. There is no change for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College ad valorem tax millage rate. This change in millage means that those taxpayers living in the Harrison County School District will also pay .20 mills more in ad valorem taxes on home, automobile tag, utilities, business fixtures and equipment and rental real property.

Any citizen of Harrison County is invited to attend this public hearing on the proposed ad valorem tax increase within those taxing districts, and will be allowed to speak for a reasonable amount of time and offer tangible evidence before any vote is taken.
