PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — Poker enthusiasts filled the streets of Downtown Pass Christian on Saturday for the St. Paul Carnival Association’s Queen of Hearts Poker Run, hosted by Team Purchner-French.
“We had 146 people register for the poker run,” said Andy Purchner, SPCA King Christian XCVI. “It was a big success, and we are pleased with the turnout.
Purchner said the poker run was held at various local businesses in Pass Christian.
“We had seven stops, with the registration area at the gazebo being the first spot to play a hand. The Whiksey Bar, The Cigar Bar, The Pass Daq and Froyo Shoppe, Shaggy’s, Bachus and the Tiki Bar at The Bungalows.”
Later on Saturday, SPCA hosted a reunion of beloved bars from the past, such as Mallini’s, Bennie French’s Tavern, and Perry’s on the Beach. The reunion party was held at the greenspace at the Pass Bungalows on West Scenic Drive.
Team Purchner-French will host its next fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Pass Christian Isles Golf Club.
“We are having a four-man scramble golf tournament,” Purchner said. “Check-in starts at 7 a.m., and the shotgun will sound at 8 a.m. The cost is $350 per team, and it’s $125 to sponsor a hole. We are also doing a helicopter golf ball drop. You can buy a golf ball for $5, and we are going to put them in a bucket and drop them from a helicopter. The ball that gets closest to a hole or pin will win a cash prize.”
