Burn Ordinance Summary
The City of Pass Christian has adopted an updated Burning Ordinance, effective 30 days after passage, to improve safety and air quality. Burning is allowed from 8 AM to 5 PM and only for dry natural vegetation. Burning trash, plastics, treated wood, and other hazardous materials is prohibited. Fires must be at least 100 feet from buildings and 1,500 feet from schools or healthcare facilities. A competent adult must attend the fire at all times, with a water source nearby. Fires must not create a nuisance for neighbors.
Burn permits are required for larger burns or land clearing and cost $100. Permits are valid for 48 hours and may be limited by location and conditions. Fire pits and burn barrels are allowed if used safely and with clean fuel. First-time violations carry a $250 fine, with increased penalties for repeat offenses. Grills and smokers for cooking are exempt.
