PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — Acclaimed author Lisa Hatfield, who has written three novels; the latest being To Ride a Storm Surge, will visit Pass Christian schools on Thursday, August 28, 2025 to share her story and insights with students during special author talk sessions. The book, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, captures the strength, resilience, and hope of communities impacted by the storm.

Hatfield will present at Pass Christian Middle School from 8:00–9:00 a.m. and at Pass Christian High School from 10:00–11:30 a.m. During the sessions, students will have the opportunity to hear about her writing process, the importance of preserving history through storytelling, and the lessons learned from one of the most significant natural disasters in the region’s history.

Hurricane Katrina changed lives forever, but it also revealed the incredible resilience of the human spirit,” Hatfield said. “I hope students come away from these talks understanding not only the power of storms, but also the power of preparation, community, and perseverance.”

The visit offers students a unique opportunity to connect literature, history, and lived experience. By engaging directly with the author, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the impact of storytelling and the importance of recording voices from the past.
