CAMP SHELBY (GG) — The Mississippi National Guard (MSNG) hosted a special ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps with a monument dedication Tuesday, July 29, 2025, near the historic Greer Chapel at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center outside Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The event included remarks from Maj. Gen. John M. Rhodes, the Assistant Adjutant General – Army for the MSNG, State Command Chaplain Col. Cregg Puckett, and other distinguished speakers. The ceremony honored the legacy of chaplains and religious affairs specialists who have provided spiritual guidance and moral leadership to service members for 250 years and counting.
The new monument, installed with support from the National Guard Bureau, joins a row of monuments leading to the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum. The tribute is one of the first of its kind in the nation, celebrating 250 years of the Chaplain Corps’ dedicated service under the motto “For God and Country.”
