GULFPORT (GG) — On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Diego Valdez-Marroquin, a citizen of Guatemala, on a felony charge of Aggravated Drug Trafficking.
On Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 9:18 PM, a Deputy from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Division conducted a traffic stop at an exit from Interstate 10 Eastbound in Gulfport, on a Toyota Tacoma for a traffic violation. The Deputy contacted the driver, identified as Diego Valdez-Marroquin, and developed suspicions of drug trafficking. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed 22 pounds of cocaine hidden within natural voids in the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested and charged with the felony charge of Aggravated Drug Trafficking. Diego Valdez-Marroquin was transported and booked into the Harrison County Jail in Gulfport, Miss. and held in lieu of a $200,000.00 surety bond.
The bond was set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner. The United States Border Patrol applied a federal immigration hold on Diago Valdez-Marroquin. The DEA and U.S. Border Patrol assisted in the investigation.
