GULFPORT (GG) — On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Cunningham of Mobile, Alabama for one felony count of Kidnapping and Kristin Allen of Gulfport, Mississippi for one felony count of Hindering Prosecution.
According to Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley, Saturday, May 24, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Audubon Lake Boulevard in Gulfport for possible shots fired at a house party. Upon arrival, county officers were immediately advised the homeowner’s dog was accidentally shot during recreational gunfire at the party, and the possible individual responsible for shooting the dog left the scene in the back seat of a marked Prichard Police Unit.
Other deputies responding to the area located the patrol unit leaving the scene and initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the Prichard Police unit was identified as an off-duty Prichard, Alabama Police Officer, David Cunningham. Cunningham was wearing his firearm and Prichard PD badge. A passenger, Kristin Allen, was also identified. The officers were made aware that there was a 21-year-old male in the backseat of the patrol car that was handcuffed at the time. Deputes removed the handcuffs and released the male from the backseat of the patrol car.
During the investigation, it was found that Cunningham went to the residence on Audubon Lake Boulevard in his marked patrol unit after receiving a phone call from the party. Cunningham arrived at the residence, saw an individual arguing with the homeowner, handcuffed the individual, placed him in the patrol car, and left the scene. There never was a call to local law enforcement notified by Cunningham or Allen.
Due to Cunningham being out of state with no enforcement powers, knowingly detaining an individual, and removing him from the scene, a warrant was issued for Cunningham for Kidnapping. Allen assisted Cunningham with creating multiple versions of events in an effort to justify Cunningham’s unlawful actions and detention of the individual. A warrant was issued for Allen for Hindering Prosecution.
On Monday, June 2, 2025, Kristin Allen was arrested on the warrant after turning herself in at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility and was issued a $50,000 bond by Justice Court Judge Louise Ladner. Then, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, David Cunningham was arrested on the warrant by Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida. David Cunningham will be held in lieu of a $500,000.00 set by Justice Court Judge Louise Ladner upon extradition from Florida.
