BILOXI (GG) — The Harrison County Board of Supervisors unveiled of a new Mississippi State Historic Marker honoring the site of First Baptist Church Biloxi built in the 1900’s, now home to the Harrison County Second Judicial Courthouse in Biloxi, Mississippi. The ceremony took place on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the corner of Washington and Lameuse Streets in downtown Biloxi.
This marker commemorates the 1900 First Baptist Church building, which once stood at this prominent downtown location before it became the site of the District 2 Courthouse in Harrison County. The unveiling is part of First Baptist Church Biloxi’s 150th anniversary celebrations and will serve as a tribute to the church’s long–standing role in the spiritual and civic life of the community.
“The historical significance of this site reflects both the heritage of First Baptist Church and the evolving service of this location to the citizens of Harrison County,” said Harrison County Board President, Nathan Barrett, District 5 “We are honored to now house the Second Judicial Courthouse at a location steeped in over a century of faith, public service, and community impact.”
This event, part of the church’s “Legacy Sunday,” is one of many activities scheduled throughout May to celebrate First Baptist Church Biloxi’s 150 years of ministry. The anniversary events will culminate in a “150 Weekend” celebration, taking place May 23-25 at the church’s current location at 1560 Popps Ferry Road.
