LONG BEACH (GG) — The Long Beach Bearcats Baseball team (16-12) beat the Picayune Maroon Tide 5-1 Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Rutledge Stadium to earn Runner-Up in Region 4-6A. This came after only winning one game in the 2024 season.
The Bearcats jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Dax Arkin singled, bringing in two runs with an error leading to two more. Long Beach added another from an Aiden Downey single which made the score 5-0.
Walker Cooke earned the win for the Bearcats on the mound, only allowing two hits and no runs after six innings while striking out nine. Caden Ahrens appeared in relief for the Bearcats to finish the victory. Catcher Flynn James, Arkin, and Downey all reached base twice for the Bearcats and the third baseman scored two runs.
The Long Beach Bearcats host the Hattiesburg Tigers in the first round of the MHSAA 4-6A playoffs at the Rutledge Stadium Thursday night, April 24, 2025. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
