HARRISON COUNTY (GG) — The Harrison County TRIAD/SALT Council presents two community service accolades to pay tribute to its original charter members for their outstanding volunteerism

  • The first award, the John and Patty Caranna Community Service Award, honors John and Patty Caranna, who devoted a significant portion of their lives to helping others in our community.
  • The second award, the Mary Lou Buchanan Service Award, recognizes Mary Lou Buchannan for her exceptional advocacy work in collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of seniors in both Harrison County and the State as a whole.

Each year, the county has the privilege of recognizing and acknowledging individuals and organizations, who generously dedicate their time and demonstrate unwavering dedication to making extraordinary contributions in Harrison County. These exceptional individuals enthusiastically volunteer and create a positive impact

JPC Award Criteria 

*An individual or group at least 50 years old

MLB Award Criteria 

*Any individual or group making an impact on the senior community

All Awards 

*Legal residents of Harrison County for at least 5 years 

*Volunteer service cannot be a part of the nominee’s employment

*Service performed in part within the last 12 months

Additionally, Harrison County is offering a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for citizens who want to be prepared for emergencies and to help their local communities in response.

COURSE DETAILS:

  • Class is free for all attendees
  • March 24-28, 5-week Night Classes (6-9pm)
  • Hands on Training in Fire Safety, First Aid, Light Search/Rescue & Terrorism
  • Drinks & Snacks Provided
  • Each Recipient will receive a CERT response kit and backpack

This training empowers individuals to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in emergency situations before first responders arrive.  CERT members will play a vital role in community preparedness and disaster response.  For more details, contact Jason Purvis, CERT Program Manager at (228)865-4002.
