PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — Winning five consecutive softball games to start the season, Pass Christian has not done in 8 years (2017) and mercy ruling the last three games brought the Lady Pirates towards a shift in momentum for the program. Friday, February 21 was no exception and the Lady Pirates (5-0) dominated the Gautier Lady Gators 12-2.
Pass Christian jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning at Gautier Softball Field after Braylee Cobern, Allie Purchner, and Olivia Saucier all singled and scored runs. The Lady Pirates posted 5 runs on the leaderboard.
The Lady Pirates extended their early lead with four runs in the top of the third inning thanks to RBI singles by Cobern, Purchner, and Saucier.
Makinlee Allen earned the win for the Pass Christian Lady Pirates, allowed only five hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Landry Boleware took the loss for Gautier Lady Gators and went five innings, giving up 12 runs (three earned) on 11 hits, striking out two and walking five.
Pass Christian accumulated 11 hits in the game as Purchner, Saucier, Emma Purchner, and Cobern each collected two hits. Saucier led Pass Christian with four runs batted in as the infielder went 2-for-4 on the day.
Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Allen and Purchner each stole multiple bases for the Lady Pirates. Pass Christian ran wild on the base paths, tallying eight stolen bases for the game.
The next regular season game for the Lady Pirates will be when they host Gulfport Thursday, February 27 at the Philip Terrell Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
