PASS CHRISTIAN (GG) — On Tuesday, September 10th, students and teachers at Pass Christian Elementary School (PCES) came together to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11 through an important moment called “Wave the Flag” Day.
The significant moment, held one day before the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, provided an opportunity for young students, many of whom were born long after the attacks, to learn about the significance of the day and show their respect in a patriotic and meaningful way.
The morning began with a school wide assembly in the main corridor of the school where students gathered holding American flags.
The students waved their flags and had a moment of silence as PCES Principal, Stacy Mooney, presented the importance of the day.
After the speech, the students led the Pledge of Allegiance. This then created an opportunity for teachers to educate studentsabout the importance of the day in their individual classrooms.
By commemorating “Wave the Flag” Day, the students and teachers of Pass Christian Elementary School created a lasting tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11. This event not only taught students about a pivotal moment in American History but instilled in them a sense of national pride and the importance of unity and respect.
