GULFPORT (GG) Harrison County Supervisor District 4 Kent Jones, in collaboration with the Harrison County Emergency Management Agency, is pleased to announce a Hurricane Readiness Forum for Seniors. This essential event will be held on August 7th at 12:00 PM at the Frances Fredericks Senior Center, located at 3312 Martin Luther King Blvd., Gulfport, Mississippi

The forum is tailored specifically to the needs of seniors, focusing on preparation and safety in the face of a hurricane. Attendees will receive vital information on the following topics

  • Preparing, Planning, and Staying Informed: Understanding the steps to take before, during, and after a hurricane
  • Emergency Transportation: What seniors need to know about evacuation options and transportation assistance
  • Understanding Hurricane Watch vs. Warning: The differences and how to respond appropriately
  • Available Shelters: Information on shelters that will be made available during a hurricane
  • Protecting Important Documents and Property: Tips on safeguarding papers, photos, and personal property
  • Alerts in Your Area: How to receive and understand emergency alerts specific to your location
  • Assembling a To-Go Bag: What essentials should be packed and ready in case of evacuation

The forum will also feature a Q&A session, allowing participants to ask questions and receive direct answers from experts

The event will be moderated by Matt Stratton, Harrison County Emergency Management Director, who will provide valuable insights and guidance
