Cecil Lizana, Pass Christian Public School District Board member, was recently elected 2021-2022 President of the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA) at the Delegate Assembly on November 16th during the MSBA Fall Leadership Conference. The delegates represent school board members from across Mississippi.
“I appreciate the opportunity to represent the MSBA board of directors as president,” said new president, Cecil Lizana. “The board’s confidence inspires me to do my best in representing Mississippi’s school districts in the coming year.”
MSBA represents all public school boards of education in the State of Mississippi. MSBA is the lobbying wing of Mississippi school boards at the state and federal levels and assists school districts with their grassroots lobbying efforts at the local level.
MSBA is also the primary technical resource for school boards and superintendents on school board governance and other related issues. MSBA serves as a principle resource for statewide educational and parental organizations in helping them to understand the governance role of the board and the administrative role of the superintendent.
“I congratulate President Lizana and the new directors,” said Denotris R. Jackson, M.Ed., MSBA Executive Director. “I look forward to working with him and the board as we continue to advocate for public school students and our members.”
Lizana serves as a board member for the Pass Christian School District. He has served on the board since 2014 and held the position of Vice President and is a dedicated supporter of public education.
Lizana attended Wayland Baptist University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Education with majors in Business Administration and Occupational Technology, and a specialization in Instruction Technology.
The MSBA Board of Directors currently has 20 members.
He also received an associates degree in Applied Science in Administrative Management from the Community College of the Air Force. He is married to his wife Debra and they have three children, Lauren, Andria, and Cecil, Jr.
