A little after 9am Sunday morning, Gulfport authorities responded to a shooting incident at the 1900 block of 47th Avenue. The incident left one person dead and the other injured at the scene.
According to the Harrison County Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer, 32 year old Cruz Johnson from Pass Christian was pronounced dead at 9:10am on scene. The cause of death was determined to be from multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson’s body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy next week.
Officials said the second victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Gulfport Police Department is on the search for Roderick Bowers, who is a suspect in the shooting incident. Bowers has been arrested multiple occasions; including felony charges on possession of cocaine. According to the Gulfport Police, Bowers is wanted for a recent kidnapping charge last week, which is connected to the shooting.
Officers expressed Bowers should be considered armed and dangerous. This is an ongoing investigation with limited details at this time. The Gulfport Police Department asks to call 228-868-5900 if any additional information can be provided.
