Harrison County School District recently announced that Pineville Elementary School has earned the distinction of being named a National Blue Ribbon School.  This coveted award is given by the U.S. Department of Education to public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools that are producing outstanding results for all students.

The selected schools have demonstrated consistent academic excellence, and made progress in closing gaps in student achievement.  The National Blue Ribbon Program is part of an effort by the U.S. Department of Education to identify effective school leadership and promising instructional practices.

Pineville Elementary was nominated for the award by the Mississippi Department of Education.  The official announcement of all National Blue Ribbon Schools took place at the school last week.

Pineville Elementary students, teachers, and staff were watching the announcement live via a link in their classrooms, then, head outside for a brief ceremony.

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and the U.S. Department of Education will recognize Pineville Elementary and other school honorees during an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on November 14 and 15.
