After dropping eight consecutive games, the Pass Christian Pirates baseball team needed a good break, especially for the 2019 seniors.  The Pirates (7-16, 4-6) outlasted the Resurrection Catholic Eagles 8-5 for their final regular season win at the Dr. Philip Terrell Complex in Pass Christian.

Both Pirates seniors, Marcos Chacon and Trentin Niolet, finished with outstanding games, as Chacon scored three runs while Niolet had multiple hits and knocked three runs batted in.

Despite Pass Christian starting pitcher Bryce Dubisson giving up a run in the top of the second inning, the Pirates answered with seven runs in the next two innings.

The Pirates catcher Jay Mason Funderburk knocked run-scoring hits in both innings, along with Corben Williams and Niolet.  At the end of the third inning, the new score was 7-1, Pass Christian lead.

Pass Christian’s Niolet singled in Chacon to build the lead by the Pirates 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with Dubisson no longer pitching.

Throughout the season, the later innings have been tough for the Pirates, who allowed three runs in the top of the sixth to reduce the lead 8-5.

Fortunately, the Pirates displayed some poise and brought in Pass Christian Junior Ace Dustin Allison to close the game, who recorded three outs on 15 pitches.  Allison picked up the save.

Off the mound, Dubisson earned the victory allowing only two runs and walking four batters, striking out one with 62 pitches.

Three Pirates (Allison, Funderburk, Niolet) players had multiple hits from the plate while Chacon was the only Pass player with multiple runs scored.  Pass Christian ran the bases well with four stolen bases.

Pass Christian finished as the fourth seed in District 8-4A and will play in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) at Sumrall High School on Thursday.
