A vehicle crashed through the front entrance of the Harrison County Courthouse at 1801 23rd Ave. on the morning of Saturday, November 10.
According to surveillance video, a maroon Chevy truck drove into the courthouse at 5:42 a.m. The building was unoccupied at the time the vehicle struck the courthouse.
Immediately after the crash, the driver was seen exiting the truck through the front passenger-side window. The driver walked away from the crash after having a brief conversation with an unknown person on the street.
“We probably will not have an estimate as to how much damage was done until at least Tuesday,” Harrison County Public Information Officer Jeff Clark said.
Keith Cavalier, 28, of Gulfport, was arrested by Gulfport police on charges of DUI and felony malicious mischief, said Gulfport police spokesman Clayton Fulks. Fulks said Cavalier told police the “crash was a way to contact police in order to report his stolen drug paraphernalia.”
“The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is certainly glad that no one was injured during the crash,” Clark said. “The board is appreciative of the work by the Gulfport Police Department with the arrest of the driver.”
Harrison County offices, including those in both the Gulfport and Biloxi courthouses, were closed Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.
