Sunday morning, multiple Harrison County Police and Fire Departments responded to a vehicle accident between 28th Street and Simmons Drive in Long Beach involving two pedestrians. Both pedestrians were struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound and driven by Gerald Pittman, 61, from Long Beach.
Upon arrival of the scene, both pedestrians were pronounced deceased. They were identified as 49-year old Melissa Blanco of Gulfport and 61-year old Robert Gates of Long Beach,
Pittman was charged with DUI 1st Offense and transported to a local hospital by AMR. This case remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Harrison County Coroner’s Office.
