Coming out of the gates, the Pass Christian Lady Pirates have started the season 4-0 with wins over four 6A classification schools. Saturday afternoon, the Lady Pirates beat perennial 6A powerhouse, Biloxi Lady Indians 42-29.
“The leadership from our seniors is the reason we are starting so well,” said Pass Christian High School Head Girls Basketball Coach Greta Ainsworth. “Our defense has been strong and this is the reason we have been winning.”
A low-scoring contest happened in the first half, as the Lady Indians took the first period lead 9-6. With a few buckets dropping their way, the Lady Pirates caught up in the second from the play of Cayla Obillo and Emory Benoit tying the game 18 all at the half.
The Lady Indians went cold in the second half, as Pass Christian capitalized, leading by 4 after the third and winning by a double digits margin.
The Lady Pirates were led from the offensive stats by junior Ambria Christophe with 11 points and senior forward Benoit with 10. Pass Christian senior point guard Obillo controlled a majority of the court and forced multiple turnovers and assists, even though finishing with 7 points.
“We have two more 6A matchups next week,” said Ainsworth. “This is before our Thanksgiving tournament.”
In Pass Christian School District news, the Grand Opening for the new Middle School Gymnasium will be after the school board meeting. The meeting will be held in the new gym, Tuesday, October 13 at 4:30pm.
