28-year old Wayne Claude Adams was arrested in Gulfport on a felony charge of First Degree Murder Friday morning, according to Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson.

Sheriff Peterson said that family members of Amber Barnett reported her missing in late February, whereas investigators concluded her last location was on County Farm Road.  In late March, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office along with investigators determined that Adams was Barnett’s last contact when following up on leads.

After conducting numerous interviews and search warrants, the investigators obtained information and evidence, which lead to a wooded area to the west of Cemetery Road north of George Ladner Road in Harrison County.

Friday morning, investigators and Gulf Coast Search and Rescue setup search dogs that located human remains in the search area.  The remains are believed to be that of Amber Barnett.  Additional arrests are expected in connection with Barnett’s murder.

The remains will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Laboratory for positive DNA results.

Adams was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility and charged with one count of First Degree Murder.  He is held in lieu of a $1 million dollar bond.
