HARRISON COUNTY SUPS AWARDS CASA & LLS

by Hunter Dawkins

The Harrison County Board of Supervisors did not hold back on the checkbooks Monday morning.

After lengthy discussions and requests for funds by Jeannie Herrin, the Executive Director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Hillary Christiansen of the Lymphoma Leukemia Society (LLS), the Board of Supervisors (BOS) unanimously approved allocating funds for both organizations.  CASA received $10,000 and LLS $5000 to contribute to Light for the Night event held on October 11, 2018.

Finally, the Board authorized six expenditures and adjucated three tax sales from all the way back to 2014 for erroneous funds.  Dr. Marlin Ladner, supervisor of District 3 (Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport) questioned the county’s medical claims payment to Gulf Guaranty Employee Benefit Services to find if there would be any validation for these payments.  County Attorney Tim Holleman assured Ladner the approved payment would be confirmed before the next meeting on July 23rd.

In other actions, the BOS recognized South Mississippi Planning & Development District (SMPDD) Representative Angie Kothmann to award three recipients:  Derrick Bruno, Bailey Griffin, & Bailie Roberts.  Each one of these individuals were beneficiaries of the 2018 SMPDD Scholarship Program.

Before adjourning, the BOS deliberated about a Road Manager for the entire county, his salary, and cemetery public works by the county.  Additionally, an executive session involving a recent action that occurred at the county election commission office led to no action taken by the county despite potential litigation.
