The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) released monumental numbers for unemployment rate in November. At a record low, 4.8% unemployment rate is the lowest ever in Mississippi according to the Labor Force.
Since last year, MDES reported the number of jobs increase by 6,500, but a decrease in population from last year by 2,500.
Although these numbers appear to be great, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Pass Christian resident Kermie Ladner thinks “more people are leaving Mississippi to find better jobs outside of the state.”
“Unemployment is lower, but the minimum wage is stagnant,” said Ladner referring to a build in the service industry on the Coast.
With the number of unemployed being listed near 60,000, this marks the lowest unemployment population since 1979.
