On Tuesday at the Long Beach School District Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jay R. Smith announced his upcoming retirement.

Smith has served as the district’s superintendent since July 1 of last year. He says he will officially retire on March 31, 2018.

Smith has served in the education field for nearly 28 years.

Long Beach High School Principal Larry Ramsey will take the seat as Interim Superintendent beginning April 1, 2018 and is expected to serve through June 30, 2018 until the district finds a permanent leader to fill Smith’s shoes.
